CELEBRITY BUMBLE BEE RUN

Our favorite trail, "The Bumble Bee run", north of Phoenix, is a great ride.
The terrain varies, has a few challenging spots, and each time we go out, everything is different, always changing.
When it rains or snows farther north, the run-off flows thru this area, and causes the every changing terrain to always make for an exciting trail ride.
As you can see, there was quite a bit of water flowing, there are roughly 12 water crossing, depending on the amount of run-off.
We call this the "Celebrity" run because our good friends and customers, Matt Thornton & J.J Putz were along for the ride. Matt pitches for the Chicago White Sox, and J.J pitches for the Seattle Mariners. Both are great guys, and I'm hoping they will soon get me the "bat boy" job I've been bugging them about!!!
Back to the trail, never a dull moment on this one, you'll be riding at the tops of the mountains looking down into valleys with flowing water and massive rock formations. A few minutes later you're in the valleys you just saw from the top.
There are a lot of old mines, and stone cabins to check out, keep your eye peeled or you can miss a lot of cool things to see.
The water was unusually deep this trip, always be careful when doing a water crossing, doesn't take much water to push you down stream, you CAN get in a bunch of trouble quickly. Never do this trail alone, you may need a good tug of the old strap in a few places.
You can "blow" thru this trail in a couple hours, or make a full day of it if your not in a big hurry.
The trail ends in a "living" ghost town called Cleator. Stop in and check out 100+ year saloon, you'll be glad you did.
Thanks for looking,
Jim

LUCAS OIL RACING SERIES

Lucas Oil Short Course Racing Series pulled into Wittman Az. with both barrels loaded!!!
We haven't seen a show like this since SCORE Racing was here in the mid-80's.
2 full days of racing, both sold out and filled to capacity, did not disappoint anyone in attendance.
The 2 & 4 wheel drive trucks stole the show, fender to fender racing, big air-time and 70 mph speeds kept the crowds on their feet all day long.
Lucas Oil sponsored Carl Renezeder won the 4-wheel drive (unlimited 4) on Saturday.
I met up with Carl as he pulled into his pits, he was very friendly and took the time to talk with me for a few minutes. Carl was also gracious enough to autograph my Team Associated Lucas Oil R/C truck, which is a copy of Carl's race truck.
Thank you Carl for being so cordial, and giving the sport a great name.
Arizona Sports Center had a full booth set up all weekend long, we had lots of interest in the Ruesch UTV's, and we sold quite a few of our R/C trucks & buggies.
Lucas Oil will be rolling back into Wittman October 17 - 18th - DO NOT MISS THIS ONE!!!

NO MORE YOUTH ATVS?!?!

In case you did not know, the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) went into effect February 10, 2009.
This "act" prohibits the sale of any & all products that contain lead marketed to children 12 & under. Sounds like a good idea, right?
This includes atv's, motorcycles, and most if not all of the parts needed to fix and maintain them.
This "act" is an absolute nightmare in many ways, even if you don't think it effects you, you are very wrong.
Atv, Motorcycle and Utv dealers who, in this economy, are already taking a huge hit, have had to pull ALL youth atv's and motorcycles off the showroom floors. The have had to empty their shelves of ALL parts & accessories to repair, service, and improve these machines.
Any idea how much revenue these products produce, especially during the Christmas season?
How are we, the dealers going to survive?
If you already own a "youth bike", at this point in time, you cannot buy a part to fix your machine. How's that make you feel?
Imagine how you're going to feel when "junior" sees you loading your bike Saturday morning to go riding, and you tell him "you have to stay home". Think about THAT for a minute!
What about the families at the race track every weekend, cheering the kids on as they go around the track, gaining experience, not only in riding, but in sportsmanship & camaraderie?
Now we're going to see "junior" on a machine that is WAY to big, not designed for them, and a whole lot more injuries to our kids.
Does that sound safe to you? All this because the CPSIA is afraid your kid is going to lick, eat, slurp, gulp swallow, taste or ingest his bike, or the parts on them. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?!?
And there is nothing you can do about it, or is there?
First off, all the manufactures, race promoters and organizations are doing all they can to overturn this, and it's going to be tough to do.
It can't be done without the "power of the people". That means you.
Contact the Consumer Product Safety Commission at http://www.csps.gov/, let them know how displeased you are, how much you disagree with this act, and urge them to exclude the youth atv's & motorcycles.
Preserve our kids favorite sport, and your family's weekend outing.
Don't think about, do it. Yea, it'll take a few minutes out of your day, but it's going to give you and your kids a lifetime of memories.
It effects us all my friends.

FIRST RIDE - PROWLER XTZ 1000cc. H2 EFI

Finally, we get a chance to test ride the new Arctic Cat Prowler 1000cc utv.
The new engine is a 951cc v-twin box of dynamite, and Yea, it’s a hemi!!
The low end “grunt” of this engine will defiantly put that big ‘ol grin on your face. Punch it and it roars to life, more get up & go than any utv we’ve ridden, it even blows away many of the “hopped-up” utv’s out there.
I hammered the throttle and hit a top speed of 65 mph in no time at all.
The power is what we’ve been hoping for. We love it when we can power-thru a tight turn, or drift in a big sweeper. Just roll on the throttle, the rear breaks loose in a very predictable manner.
Ever jump your utv and have the rear end “buck-up” on you? Sure you have.
With Prowlers new found gonads, just “burp” the throttle before the jump, and it’s got the giddy up to to keep the front pointed skyward, resulting in smoother, safer & “professional” looking landings.
I believe the engine had a few more miles per hour to give me, but we ran out of road and had to get on the “binders”.
Speaking of “binders”, the new outboard disc brakes really outshine the previous models system. If your gonna go faster, it’s nice to be able to stop. I’m sure you’ll agree.
The parking brake has also been changed, to a more “automotive” style. Much easier to use, with a more positive & secure feeling to it.
The clutches have been re-done, different weights & rollers to work better with the new found power. This seemed to work flawlessly for us, but we can’t leave anything alone. We are working on a few clutch options as we speak.
The suspension work well with the speeds we are now capable of. With a full 10 inches of ground clearance, and 10” of travel, we rode over and soaked up all but the harshest bumps & dips on the trails. The gas charged shocks seem to work a lot better than previous years also.
We didn’t get to spend as much time on the Prowler as we’d like to have (we never do), but in the short time we had, we were impressed.
I’ very impressed that Arctic Cat didn’t just dump a bigger power plant in and call it quits. They made really good improvements to the entire machine to handle all the speed & power, and you can stop it.

Replacing your utv's drive belt

Sooner or later, your machines drive belt will need replacing.
It’s not hard to do, but here’s a little known fact you should be aware of.
Drive belts are “coated” with a silicone based spray, from the manufacture, before it is shipped.
This is done to extend the “shelf-life”, and keep them flexible during shipping and while being warehoused.
If you install a drive belt with this “silicone” on the belt, there is a good chance it can slip, and could end up damaging the belt. Belts aren’t cheap, so we sure don’t want this to happen.
Take a few minutes before installing, and wash with warm water and the dish soap on your sink. That’s all it takes, for a bit of “piece-of-mind”.
